Gulfstream Aerospace proudly announced that their G550 fleet has completed 1 million flights and landings, a testament to the aircraft's durability and continuous performance improvement. The high-performance fleet has accumulated an impressive 2.6 million flight hours to date.
"Two decades after its introduction into service, the G550 continues to achieve milestones, as demonstrated by this one-millionth landing," said Mark Burns, the company's president. He emphasized that this achievement underscores the quality of the G550 and the cutting-edge technology that Gulfstream incorporated into the aircraft.
The G550 was a pioneer in Gulfstream's Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS), now known as the Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS), and was recognized for this achievement, along with other advancements, with the 2003 Collier Trophy from the National Aeronautic Association.
The EFVS is now available for the G280, G650, G650ER, G400, G500, and G600, including the new G700 and G800, which also feature a Synthetic Vision System in the Combined Vision System to enhance pilot situational awareness. Gulfstream was the first original equipment manufacturer to obtain approval from the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for certified operators to use EFVS for landing and deployment.
Equipped with two Rolls-Royce BR710 engines, the G550 can fly 6,750 nautical miles/12,501 kilometers at Mach 0.80, placing the aircraft at the top of its class. The cabin offers multiple configurations and can accommodate up to 19 passengers.
Thanks to its outstanding performance and reliability, the G550 has been a key platform for special missions, with modifications for a variety of governmental applications, including aeromedical evacuation, head of state transportation, airborne early warning, atmospheric research, and maritime patrol.
The G550 entered service in 2003, and there are now more than 600 aircraft in operation. Gulfstream's commitment to innovation and excellence continues to position the G550 as a preferred choice for discerning customers seeking unparalleled performance and versatility.
For more than two decades, the G550 has proven its worth as a true workhorse, combining cutting-edge technology with exceptional reliability, making it a staple in the world of private and government aviation. As Gulfstream's remarkable journey continues, the G550's legacy of achievement and success only grows stronger.
