The Chinese government announced that they finished the first stage of a small hypersonic aircraft prototype for civil use; Scientists involved in the project say they are getting closer to developing a passenger aircraft that travels six times the speed of sound.
The Nanqiang No 1 drone weighs only 500 kilograms but can reach six times the speed of sound, or even faster. They have tried three different types of power systems, a design that some experts thought would never work.
The completion of all test flights by 2025 will allow the development of a passenger aircraft that can travel more than 6 thousand km per hour.
Challenges for the project now include devising a way to slow down, emergency landing systems and its commercial viability.
