Grupo AeroMéxico contemplated the incorporation of 14 new aircraft during the year to add 147 units to its fleet at the end of 2022, one of the objectives outlined after the end of its financial and operational restructuring process, at the beginning of March.
The Mexican airline started the year with 122 units and for this month it reached 133 airplanes, it said in the framework of its participation in the Tianguis Turístico, held in Acapulco, Guerrero.
“We will end this year with a larger fleet than we had in 2019,” Rodrigo Sandoval, director of banks and loyalty at AeroMéxico, was quoted as saying in a statement. “Increasingly modern, efficient and friendly to the environment. This allows us to increase our connectivity network inside and outside the country”.
In recent years, the company has tended to gradually reduce its fleet, which before the health emergency faced operational setbacks as a result of the failures that the manufacturer Boeing presented in its 737 MAX single-aisle aircraft, and which continued in the first months of the pandemic.
However, as of 2021, the number of aircraft in service increased again, and the acquisition of new aircraft is part of its investment plans for five billion dollars that it announced after completing the restructuring of its business, which began in the middle of 2020 under the protection of Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Law of the United States.
